The Story of Whisper:

Forged by the Eastern Elves, Whisper has always rested upon the side of one of the Caradine Rangers.  With their home nestled in the towering oaks and maples surrounding the Elven city of Liame, the Caradine people were the elves greatest friends.  Many of those born in Caradine spent much of their early years inside the elven city, learning the ways of the elves and being nurtured by their forest’s magic.  Those that later took up the mantle of Ranger were often gifted with an elven blade endowed with unique power; Whisper is one such blade.  The bearer of this blade can move through any woodland terrain almost unseen and certainly unheard.  Within Whisper’s pommel is set a magical gem, ever changing color within the light.  The gem bestows upon the Ranger the ability to hear the faintest of sounds over great distance.  With Whisper at one’s side the bearer can choose to listen in on the secrets of any conversation taking place within a hundred yards.   Buildings and other obstacles are no hinderance to Whisper’s magic.

Actual Design and Construction:

The blade was forged by Windlass Steelcrafts using 1085, High Carbon Steel.  I dramatically altered the ricasso and shortened the blade by an inch. On each side of the blade’s ricasso I hand etched the scene of a Ranger traveling through the woods.  On the bottom portion of the blade, I etched a branch of leaves. The guard and the spacer are crafted from mild steel.  The handle I carved from African Blackwood. Steel lineup pins are used throughout the construction, and the tang is threaded so that the pommel I crafted from mild steel acts as a nut, completing the dagger’s takedown design.  Finally, I set a 10mm cubic zirconia into the top of the pommel, the cut of which reflects light in different colors.
