The Story of The Titan’s Eye:

At the start of the endless winter word quickly spread that two Cyclops had taken up residence deep in the mountains of Uhl, near the Kingdom of the Frost Giants.   Unlike the cyclops that were portrayed in tall tales told by men drinking in the taverns of Illantul, these brothers were not savage beasts, but instead master blacksmiths and shrewd entrepreneurs.  They first plied their trade, creating remarkable hammers and great swords for the Frost Giants, who were glad to pay the smiths with human gold they had acquired through the killing of men.  Soon the single-eyed blacksmiths were seen by the men of Illantul as enemies as great as the ferocious Frost giants themselves, although the cyclops brothers had never actually raised a hand against any inhabitant of this land.  Fearing a negative impact upon their newly formed business venture, the brothers sent an envoy to Tarth offering to forge great weapons for the race of men as well.  The greatest of the these being an axe now known as The Titan’s Eye.  In a bid to impress their new human customers, the cyclops endowed the Titan’s Eye with old magic.  The wielder of this axe is gifted with the ability to see their enemies within their mind’s eye prior to an actual attack. It is with this gift that the men of Illantul were forewarned of the Frost Giant uprisings during the endless winter. The Titan’s Eye is also said to have the power to daze individual opponents during battle as they gaze upon the disembodied eye carved into the axe’s belly plate.

Actual Design and Construction:

The axe head is a reclaimed high carbon steel head that I ground back to clean steel and shaped into its current form.  Each side is hand etched with the image of a cyclops and decorative scroll work.  Upon the face of the axe’s hammer I etched the image of a menacing eye and on the belly plate I etched a disembodied eyeball surrounded by scrollwork.  The bottom portion of the carved hickory handle is wrapped with deer hide to form a comfortable leather grip.   Finally, a steel plate covers the foot of the axe which contains my maker’s mark.
