The Story of the Lich King’s Folly:

The Lich King of Bolandorr, filled his dark sorcery with his cunning and malice to create a blade that would be the bane of all of his brethren. A simple nick from the edge of the knife would cause any being from the shadow world to cease to exist in the material plane, cementing the Lich’s rule over all the undead.  A perfect scepter to ensure his kingdom for all time, or so he thought.  During the third attempt by the priests of Illantul to infiltrate the Lich’s stronghold, there was a lone survivor.  Hiding among the bodies of his fallen clergy, the young priest witnessed the Lich using his blade upon a dissenter in his own army of undead, revealing to the priest the Lich King’s Achilles heel.  The young priest organized a forth infiltration with 40 priests and one cutpurse or renown skill.  The majority of the priests died as nothing more than a sacrifice and a distraction in this campaign, while the cutpurse retrieved the real prize.  During the fifth and final infiltration, armed with the Lich King’s own creation, the young priest landed a glancing blow upon his foe, ending his rule.  During his centuries of control, the king’s hubris had become so great that he forgot that he himself was a denizen of the shadow world, and the blade that brought him his power became the lich king’s folly.

Actual Design and Construction:

The blade was forged by Windlass Steelcrafts using 1085, High Carbon Steel.  I altered to top of the blade with a crescent indent on both sides and an etching of the image of the Lich king wreathed in flame. The ‘S’ guard is a three part construction, with the quillon block being South American purpleheart wood capped with an eighth inch brass cross.  The quillons set into the block are fashioned from the ends of male springbok horns.  The spiraling handle of the through tang design was crafted from the base of a springbok horn. The pommel is a repurposed brass humanoid skull created by another artist.
