The Story of the Castellan:

Deep in the mountainous regions of Illantul lies the castle of Bedadune.  For all time remembered, the castle has served as a haven, where travelers could shelter from marauding gnolls, mountain trolls, and all other forms of evil inhabiting the mountains of Illantul. It is said that no traveler that reached the castle bridge has ever suffered harm or misfortune during their stay.  This extraordinary protection has been credited to the rule of the current Governor, Karamax the Vigilant.  But many different Governors have come and gone over the ages, and the only true constant has been that each sitting Governor has possessed the Castellan. This magical blade is said to render the one who possesses it immune to all forms of physical attack, so long as they reside on the ground of Bedadune.

Actual Design and Construction:

The blade was forged by Windlass Steelcrafts using 1085 high carbon steel. I etched the image of the mythical castle “Bedadune” nestled into the surrounding mountains of Illantul, onto both sides of the blade.  The crossguard is fashioned from solid brass, with the quillion balls tapped and threaded into the block of the guard.  The handle is carved from African Blackwood and sits atop of a brass spacer.  The threaded brass pommel was hand carved to represent a castle turret with a lapis lazuli stone set into its center, completing this dagger’s take down design.

Specifications:

Blade length: 12 inches

Overall length: 17.375 inches

Hand grip length: 3.625 inches

Blade width at widest point: 1.625 inches

Guard width: 3.75 inches

Weight: 16.05 ounces

Balance point: .75 inches in front of the guard

 Sheath Construction:

The sheath is a traditional dagger design (wet formed to the blade with hand stitching down the back spine) constructed of 4-5 oz premium veg tan leather.  The body of the sheath is tooled entirely with interlocking dragon scales, stained an antiqued royal blue.  The leather throat is tooled with the image of wheat that fed the castle’s inhabitants. The chape is tooled only around the edges, with both stained an antique walnut.
