The Story of Soulrender:

It is said that whoever controls Soulrender, has the power to call the undead to do their bidding, and all slain by the blade quickly fade into shadow to join the army of the bloodless.  The story of the blade’s origins is a common tale told in the taverns and brothels throughout Illantul.

When the first humans traveled across the shifting sea to what is now Illantul, one of their number was a renown cleric known for his spiritual devotion and great ability to repel the undead creatures that they encountered throughout their journey.  In the first year after arriving in this new land, the cleric and two of his acolytes were dispelling Barrow-wights from the downs that bordered their new settlement, when they came upon a large stone crypt.  Forcing his way into the crypt, the cleric discovered an elaborately decorated bolo blade displayed on a stone altar.  Upon picking up the blade, the crypt flooded with wights, ghouls, specters, and all manner of ghastly undead.  But instead of attacking the cleric, these creatures appeared to be in awe of him.  Whispers heard only by the cleric, told him that so long as he bore Soulrender he would command legions of undead and that all he struck down with the blade would add to his legion’s numbers.  Intoxicated by this new dark power and eager to test its efficacy, he turned the blade upon his own acolytes and Soulrender quickly added two more wights to his army.

 Actual Design and Construction:
