The Story of the Werebear’s Claw:
This blade was said to have been carried by Lother, Illantul’s famed lycanthropy hunter, who had silver magically infused into the steel during its forging. Upon slaying a particularly large werebear, Lother attached two of the bear’s claws as trophy quillons, giving the blade its signature name.
Actual Design and Construction:
The blade was forged by Windlass Steelcrafts using 1085, High Carbon Steel. The guard is crafted from bronze and African springbok horn. The portion of the guard with the Celtic knot design was crafted by an artisan in Ukraine. I ground the original Quillons down into pins to attach the solid portion of the tips from female springbok horns. (These are meant to represent claws from a giant bear.) The handle of the blade’s through tang design is two pieces of African Blackwood separated by a carved brass spacer. The Bear’s head pommel is made of formed brass, also from the artisan in Ukraine.
